Curriculum Vitae of J. S. Jealous D.O.

James S. Jealous D.O. was born as an " osteopath" in 1943, as he calls it himself.
He grew up in Maine, which is at the north-east coast of the USA. His father and godfather were osteopaths. With 14 years he took a job at the osteopathic hospital in Maine. At the age of 18 he then began his studies in radiology at the same hospital and had the pleasure of meeting some excellent osteopaths like Angius Cathie for example.
In 1965 he began his osteopathic-medical education at the Osteopathic College in Kirksville Missouri. At this time he was a "fellow" in anatomy and already taught the lower age groups. He graduated in 1970 and took his residency at the Osteopathic Hospital in Maine.
In 1966 he finished his first course at the SCTF (Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation; was founded by Sutherland himself), later joined as a member and was part of the executive board until 1993. He taught from 1975 on with his mentor Rollin Becker.
The brother of Dr. Jealous lived next door to Dr. Sutherland in California, where Sutherland spent his last years in his home "The Fulcrum", and informed the two osteopaths, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Hull who took care of Sutherland in his last years, that Jim was keen on learning the "Craniale Conzept".

In 1972 they visited Jim and emptied, as he remembers, countless photos, letters and infos of Sutherland. In 1973 Jim met Dr. Ruby Day, who was with Sutherland since the early years and has also taught by his side. She lived close to Jim and he had the privilege to be taught by her exclusively until her death in the mid-80's. He had a one-on-one hands on education every Saturday with her being his mentor and teacher, just like Sutherland taught her.
In 1978 he got to know Alan R. Becker and had a stirring exchange with him. The last year of A. Becker they communicated about the PRM just by using audio-tapes (Becker lived his last years in Hawaii).

In 1988, together with Dr. Hogopian, he started the New England Osteopathic Studygroup including Anne Wales and 1987 the Anne Wales Studygroup with Sue Turner and Stuart Korr from England.
From 1971-1998 he was a mentor and taught pupils of osteopathy in his practice in Maine.
He has been president of the Osteopathic Centre for childrein in London since 10 years.
He has achieved an award as professor for the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine continues to teach there since 1978.
In 1994 he founded his concept of "The Biodynamics of Osteopathy" and started lectures on this subject. When he decided to teach his first course, 800 osteopaths tried to enrol. Since then he has taught his concept in the USA and all over the world.
He is very in touch with nature and says that he has learned to integrate a lot from it in his concepts.
He lives momentarily in New Hampshire and spends a lot of time with nature, constantly fine-tuning his concepts.

The following is a list of contributions that he has made to Osteopathy:

1. Automatic Shifting
2. acknowledgement of a general midline (not the corda dorsalis)
3. the connection between the fluid-dynamics of Blechschmidt and Sutherland
4. the patients neutral as starting point for diagnosis and treatment
5. the fluid body
6. acknowledgement of the polyrhythmic system
7. working with the movement that is there and not only with the movement that is possible
8. the perception and finding of "health" within the patient
9. the perception of the "whole patient"
10. his aspects on treatment of the viscerocranium (fluid-fields and seams etc.)
11. the importance of bringing anatomical discoveries from background to foreground
( i.g. anterior dural girdle and the 2 sheaths of the tentorium as being two independent structures)
12. the PRM as a metabolic mover and not the mechanical viewpoint with levers, tractions etc.
13. the promotion of R. Becker's saying: "The deity that centers it"
(Sutherland Memorial Speech from R. Becker in 1965-"Be still and know")
14. the concept of zones as a teaching-model
15. EV4 (expansion of the 4th ventricle)
16. Ignition System and the application for the 3rd ventricle (without using force).
